Eugene Werner

November 27, 1920 — April 7, 2013

Eugene H. Werner, 92, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 12, 2013, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas. Family will greet friends an hour before the service.

Eugene was born November 27, 1920, in Galveston, Texas, the son of Edwin and Vera (Hadley) Werner. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1947 with a BA Degree in Business Administration. Eugene served in the United States Air Force in the 8th Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and was stationed at Nuthampstead, England. He flew 25 missions as Bombardier in a B-17 and was the lead Bombardier on several missions over Germany. In 1945 he was discharged and married Betty Jean Sneyd. Following graduation from the University of Texas, he was employed by Proctor and Gamble in Dallas, Texas and later joined Sears Roebuck & Co, where he was employed for 30 years in Dallas, Texas and Overland Park, Kansas. His last assignment was Group Personnel Manager for the Kansas City Group. After retirement in 1980 he was an Executive Search Consultant for 10 years and from 1990 to 2000 he worked for the Johnson County Public Library and later with the Mid-Continent Library. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Johnson County.

He was a member of the Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir for 10 years. He and Betty have lived at Kingswood Senior Living Retirement Community since 2000 and he served in many offices and communities there.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Betty Ann Werner of Los Angeles, California.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Donald Werner and his companion Mike Gosline of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Audrey Werner of Texas City, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
