Evelyn ?Ebbie? Fay Benjes, age 67, died of cancer on Friday, August 29, 2008.
She was born in Kansas City, MO on January 16, 1941 to Henry Benjes and Evenlyn Benjes. Ebbie is survived by her step-mother, Helen Benjes and two brothers, Henry ?Bud? Benjes, Jr. and Richard Benjes. She attended Shawnee Mission High School, Kansas University and Rockhurst College, where she graduated with a business degree.
Ebbie lived in the Kansas City area most of her life, other than a 2-year period in San Francisco, CA. After working at Knight Ridder and other employers, she retired from Jackson County. She was a treasurer of the Kansas City ski club, rode horses until she broke her leg, was a passionate supporter of theater and the Kansas City Choral and traveled extensively. She lived life vigorously, enjoying close relationships with friends, nieces and nephews. Her great- nieces and great nephews lovingly call her ?Queen Ebbie?. Ebbie always had pets. Calvin, the cat, and Cody, the dog, will find a good home with Ebbie?s relatives.
A brief memorial service will be held at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Overland Park, KS at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2008. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO.
