Evelyn J. "Evie" Crum, age 83, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on December 23,2006 at DelMar Gardens of Lenexa.
Evie was born on June 15, 1923 in Brainerd, Minnesota. While working as a bank secretary in Washington, D.C.,she met her husband, Edward, a widower with three children. They were married on March 1, 1946 and settled eventually in the Overland Park area in 1951. She touched the lives of countless students and teachers as a school secretary in the Shawnee Mission School District, first at Overland Park Grade School and later at Hickory Grove Grade school, from 1953 until her retirement in the early 1980s. She was active in the Kansas Association of Educational Office Professionals as a member and past president from 1969-1970. Upon retirement, Evie volunteered her services at Hillcrest Covenant Church and thrift organizations. Throughout her life, she was involved in church activities, with the First Covenant Church and later with the Hillcrest Covenant Church, particularly lending her beautiful soprano voice to the church choir and trios. She was a charter member of the Hillcrest Covenant Church.
Evie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Malcom. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Edward, who resides at DelMar Gardens of Lenexa; a brother, James Ellison, of Homeland, California; stepdaughter, Sylvia Anderson, of Anderson, MO; stepson, Ted Allen Crum, of Chicago, Illinois; stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Ritter, of Spotsylvania, VA; and son, Karl Crum, of Overland Park, KS. She took great pride in her 11 grandchildren: Sonya (Anderson) Hancock, Dawn (Anderson) Morley, Douglas Anderson, Terrelle Anderson, Timothy Anderson, Sarah (Anderson) Smith, Jeremy Anderson, Jeffrey Bilyeu, Joe Paul Ritter, Mary Beth (Ritter) Jaderborg, Kristine (Crum) Taylor, and Kyle Ellison Crum. She also rejoiced in the lives of her 19 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Hillcrest Covenant Church, 8801 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, Kansas, 66207. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 2, 2007 from 6 PM to 8 PM also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hillcrest Covenant Church for use in their Global Mission Ministry.
