Evelyn Harkness was born February 1, 1915 in Kansas City, KS to Edward and Elsa (nee Tauber) Larson. She was baptized into the Christian faith on September 19, 1915 at St. Peters Evangelical Church in Kansas City, MO. She was an only child until her mother married George Condron and they had a son named Julius. Evelyn loved being a big sister to him. Tragedy struck during World War II when Staff Sergeant Julius E. Condron, age 20, was killed action when the B-17 that he was a tail gunner on went down over the English Channel on March 23, 1944. Evelyn wore a bracelet in memory of her brother for the rest of her life.
Evelyn married Glen W. Harkness on February 1, 1936 (her 21st birthday) and they lived a quiet life in Merriam until his death in 1969. Evelyn worked for many years at Tension Envelope Corporation. Evelyn died April 15, 2017 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa where she had been a resident for the past 30 years. Evelyn had a great relationship with her mother, Elsa Butler, who passed away in 1983.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and care-givers whom she was thankful for.
After cremation, her remains will be interred at Maple Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, KS next to her mother and husband. A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10:30AM.
