Mrs. Evelyn Johnson
June 6, 1920 — August 14, 2012
Evelyn L. Johnson, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Memorial services will be 1 PM on Saturday, August 18, at the Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS.
Evelyn (Applequist) Johnson was born on June 6, 1920. She graduated from Westport High School and went to work for Skelly's and then Hallmark prior to marrying. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Village Presbyterian Church for 54 years.
Evelyn's partner for life ever after was Ralph Ernest Johnson whom she married in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They were together for 62 years when Ralph passed away on May 24, 2010. Evelyn devoted her life to comforting others especially in their time of need. She and Ralph were members of the Bow Tie Club where they made their closest friends throughout the years. Evelyn also enjoyed the marriage of her son and her daughter and the birth of her two grandchildren.
Even in the time without her Ralph, Evelyn's generous heart was displayed in the way she treated those around her with friendliness and joy.
Evelyn loved her home, family, and church, and was grateful for God's blessing of good health throughout the years.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her brothers, Ed, Ollie and Roland. She is survived by her son, and daughter-in-law, Ken and Nancy Johnson, of Lexington, KY; her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Roger Collins of Prairie Village, KS; and her grandchildren, Kirsten and Colin. Evelyn is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dick Graba.
