Evelyne Sharpton

October 10, 1934 — October 10, 2013

Evelyne Louise Sharpton, 79, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013.

She was born August 12, 1934 in Berryville, Arkansas, to the late William and Rosa Cheesman. After Rosa's death in 1936, the family moved to Kansas where she attended Palco High School and was known as "Cheesy," an ornery, fun-loving prankster. In 1956, she married Kenneth Sharpton. The family moved to Nebraska and later Kansas City where Evelyne found herself raising three children on her own.

Evelyne is survived by a daughter Toni (Bob) Kerr of Gardner and two sons: Steven Sharpton of Shawnee and James (Tina) Sharpton of Prairie Village, four granddaughters: Kadi (Matt) Ensz of St. Louis, Veronica Kerr, Cassie Kerr, Maria Sharpton, one grandson William Sharpton, and one great-grandson Bode Ensz. She is also survived by a brother: Roy (Dorothy) Cheesman of Apple River, Ill. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Rosa Cheesman, step mother Mary Cheesman, brother Norman Cheesman of McPherson, Kathleen Addleman of Casper, Wyoming, and Maxine Williams of Greenville, South Carolina.

A truly altruistic soul, Evelyne devoted her entire life to building and bettering the lives of her beloved family. Despite the hardships she faced, she always found the silver lining and never forgot to smile. She raised three beautiful children and bestowed a lifetime of infinite wisdom upon them. Her sewing and crafts always kept her busy, as did her love of books and traveling with her sisters. She was an amazing mother and the best grandmother. We will eternally miss her, but rejoice knowing that we will see her again.
