Everett J. Taylor, Lenexa, Ks, passed away June 28, 2013. Everett was born May 12, 1925 in Pearl, Ks. He graduated from Chapman High School and joined the Navy in 1943. He was a trained Navy pilot and attended Deck Officers School before being assigned to a Submarine Patrol Boat stationed in Key West, Florida. While in Key West he met Harriett Fincher, a lab tech at the Naval Hospital, who became his wife for 67 years. They were married Sept. 10, 1946. He was graduated from Kansas State University in Civil Engineering in 1949.
Everett was a devoted and loving family man. He enjoyed traveling and took his family on many vacations across the US. He was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
He was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for many years while his sons rose to the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an avid K-State football fan. Everett was instrumental in setting up a glass recycling program at Lakeview Village.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a son, Tim, and a daughter, Georgia. He is survived by his wife Harriett, sons Tom (Betsy) and Rex (Mary) both of OP, Ks and son-in-law Gary Stanko of Olathe. Grand children Bryan (Shannon) Thomas, Lindy (Devon) Hayes, Adam (Amy) Taylor, Meghan (Nick) Senatore, Molly Stanko and Brandon Taylor. Great grand children Lane, Alex, Madison, Kobe, Elle, Jackson, Ali, Reece, and Brooklyn.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 5 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village with a Celebration of His Life starting at 2:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice.
