Florence Devine passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at the age of 89. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas, the first daughter of her parents, Charles and Anna Bortka on November 13, 1926.
Florence met her husband, Lawrence (Rusty) Devine in high school and they were married after Rusty’s service in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II. Florence spent most of her married life as a loving mother and homemaker, but worked for several years as a secretary for the Kansas City, Kansas school district.
A lifelong Catholic, Florence was a member of Christ the King parish in Kansas City, KS and later of Cure of Ars in Leawood. Most recently, she attended Mass at Santa Marta Retirement Community where she lived for the past eight years.
Florence is survived by five children, Diane Whittier, Laura Wilder, Larry Devine, Kevin Devine, and Jeff Devine, and her sister, Virginia Masterson. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Rusty, her son, Ron, and three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday, August 19, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS.
