Floyd J. Maynard, 90, Olathe, Kansas passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 22, 2008 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. A visitation will begin an hour prior to service times. Private burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Parkinson’s Foundation, 8900 State Line Rd., Leawood, KS 66206 or Overland Park Christian Church, 7600 W. 75th St., Overland Park, KS 66204.
Floyd was born January 13, 1918 in Lawrence, Kansas to Floyd D. & Mervin Maynard. He attended Kansas State University and graduated with an Agriculture Degree. He furthered his education at UMKC and graduated with a JD Degree. Floyd married Frances “Perry” Carter in July, 1942. He went on to become a P-51 Mustang fighter pilot in WWII where he destroyed 102 ½ German aircraft in 19 days. After returning from the war he had a law office in Overland Park, and then became a Closing Attorney for Tuttle Creek Dam with the Corp of Engineers. Finally he worked for General Services Administration (GSA) as a Regional Commissioner, where he retired from in 1973.
Floyd, along with his wife Perry, enjoyed fishing, golfing, ballroom dancing, playing bridge, and traveling. He was a member of Overland Park Christian Church and also Brookridge Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Gary. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Perry; son, Thomas Maynard and wife Barbara of Florida; daughter, Jean Harbaugh and husband Jerry of North Carolina; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
