FORREST "DEAN" FLETCHER
Forrest "Dean" Fletcher, 75, Leawood, KS, passed away January 26, 2011. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2011, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, KS. Dean was born April 5, 1935, in Pratt, KS. After graduating from Pratt High School, Dean earned a Bachelor's degree in business from the University of Kansas where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and was enrolled in ROTC. He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army and completed his services with the rank of First Lieutenant.
Upon leaving the military Dean went into business with his brother, establishing Fletcher's Packing Company where he was co-owner and Vice President. In later years his entrepreneurial spirit led him to develop several other successful businesses within the beef industry. Throughout his adult life he was passionate about molding the character of the young men he coached in basketball, baseball, and ice hockey. He made a lasting impression on many lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl J. and Hazel F. (Hacker) Fletcher; and his brother, Burl J., Jr. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Donna; sons, Thomas Dean (Mary) and John Randall; and four granddaughters, Lauren, Katherine, Abigail, and Elizabeth.
