Frances Raine Cowan Reid, 96, Mission Hills, Kansas, passed away September 14, 2011 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. She was born on September 4, 1915 to Nellie Breckinridge and Frank Martin Raine in Huntsville, MO and was the second of five children. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, which is now Truman State University, in 1943 and moved to Kansas City. She taught art and home economics in the KCMO school system and retired in 1980. Frances married Harold Cowan in 1950 and they had two children. Their early years were spent in the Brookside area and she became a member of Second Presbyterian Church in 1958. Her husband, Harold, passed away in 1996 and in 1998, at the age of 83, she married Tom Reid of Kansas City, who passed away in 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Newton and Mary Elizabeth Burkhart; brother, Joseph Raine; and husbands, Harold and Tom. She is survived by her sister, Jane Manard of Moberly, MO; children, John Cowan of Leawood, Kansas and Jan Munro and husband Stuart of Lake Quivira, Kansas; grandchildren, Becca Munro and husband John Kemp, Kristen Cowan, David Munro, and Daniel Munro; many nieces and nephews; and four stepdaughters, Phyllis Hook, Sue Ellen Wright, Lynette Gregg, and Denise Reid-Shoaff. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the wonderful care Frances received at Garden Terrace. A celebration of life will be at 1:30 PM, Saturday, September 17, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service in the chapel. A private family entombment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
