Frances Marian Laudie, age 94, of Orem, UT passed away peacefully, on Thursday, November 21, 2013. She was born on November 16, 1919 in Kansas City, MO, to Mosher Shirley and Mary Emma Sweet Ford. She was the second of three daughters.
Marian grew up in Kansas City, MO, and Independence, MO, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1937. After graduation, she and her sweetheart, Andrew Truman Laudie, were married in Los Angeles, CA, on July 12, 1937.
Marian and Truman began their family in California, and eventually had four children born to them there-- Drew, Bob, Marilyn and Rich. A fifth child, Ron, was born after the family moved back to Kansas City.
It was while living in Burbank, that Marian and Truman and their young family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple.
Marian and Truman moved back to the Kansas City area in 1952, where they lived in Prairie Village. They were very active in aiding in the growth of the LDS Church in the area. Marian enjoyed serving in various teaching and leadership assignments in all of the organizations of her church. She was a dedicated and faithful member of the Church all her life, and had the gift of simple goodness. Marian had a great talent for building lasting friendships, and she was known for her positive nature and true kindness in her relationships with others.
In 1979-80, Marian and Truman served a mission for the LDS Church in Alberta, Canada. All their sons and many of their posterity have also served missions.
After Truman passed away in 1986, Marian retained her place at the head of her family and lived a richly abundant life for the remaining 27 years, enjoying her family, her church, and her friends. Because of health reasons, she moved to Utah in 2009 to live with her daughter for her last years.
Marian possessed a firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and rejoices today with family and friends in a heavenly reunion.
Marian was a devoted and proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had an enormous pride and love for her numerous posterity. Together she and Truman had five children, 38 grandchildren, 99 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Marian is survived by her five children: Drew (Carol) Laudie of Woodland, UT; Bob (Lois) Laudie of Lee's Summit, MO; Marilyn (Bill) Powell of Orem, UT; Rich (Pat) Laudie of Four Oaks, NC; and Ron (Shannon) Laudie of Pleasant Grove,UT; a sister, Shirley (Scotty) Lumsden of Overland Park, KS; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman, her parents, sister Genevieve Mingus, granddaughters Wendy Powell, Amy Laudie, and Teresa Adlard., and a great-grandson, Michael Hartzog.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, December 2, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS with viewing beginning at 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
