Frances Mae Walters, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at home on September 18th, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born on February 14th, 1924 to Cecil and Marie Jones. In 1944 Frances married Oliver E. “Bucky” Walters at the Community Christian Church in the Country Club Plaza of KC, MO. Frances graduated from Stephens College in 1943 and worked with her father at his department store, Mace Jones in fine jewelry. As a lifelong resident and entrepreneur of Kansas City, Frances was a member of the Kansas City Athenaeum, became a founding/charter member & the third past president of Johnson County Young Matrons (JCYM), charter member of Brookridge Country Club & past chairperson of its swim team, founded the business Swim Quik, Inc. and was a founding member of the Downtown Overland Park Merchants Association.
Some of her achievements while being a member of these various organizations were to help to establish Temporary Lodging for Children (TLC) for the JCYM and began the Downtown Overland Park (DOP) Merchants Association which in turn started the Farmers Market and the Revitalizing DOP Committee. Fran was a girl scout leader for her daughters and for many years organized swim meets for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and the Country Club League in the KC Area.
Frances is survived by her family, Victoria Hightower, Janet King (Terry), Burris Jones (Kay), Brooke Hightower-Foster (Nicholas Foster), Aurelie Roque (Robert Buehrig), Stephane, Julia & Christophe Roque, Ashley, Addison, Alexa & Allessandra Foster, Becky Arthur (Rex), Kirk Jones (Candace), Pam Bullerdick (Todd), along with grand nieces, grand nephews, McClintock cousins and step grand and great grandchildren.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Clarence Jones and Julia Marie (McClintock) Jones, husband Oliver E. “Bucky” Walters and son-in-law, Greg Alan Hightower.
A visitation will be held on October 8, 2017 at 1:00 PM, Memorial Service at 2:00 PM and a reception immediately following from 3:00-5:00 PM all held at Johnson County Memorial Gardens 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas.
