Frank Donald "Don" Blauw passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in Overland Park.

Don was born July 11, 1920 in Kansas City, Mo. He was the second son of Frank and Grace Blauw. Don spent most of his life in the Kansas City area. He graduated from Southwest High School and received a degree in accounting from the University of Missouri. Don enlisted in the Army and served as a technical sergeant in the Ordinance Corps in the European Theater during WWII. He received two bronze stars during his three years of service.

He met, and six weeks later, married his wife, Beverly Craven, in 1945. They were married 50 years before her death in 1996. They had four children. Don spent many years working in the trucking industry. He retired from Yellow Freight System after 18 years in 1985. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved golf. He participated in two senior leagues and was an officer of the Public Links Seniors league for many years following his retirement. He was also active in the early 1960s in the Silver Spurs Saddle Club of Lenexa and served as marshal at St. Andrew's Golf Club in Overland Park for several years in the 1990s.

Don leaves behind to cherish wonderful memories of him, son and wife, Randall and Gail Blauw and daughters and husbands, Rebecca and Robert Beach and Amy and Robert Fowler, all of the Kansas City area; and daughter and husband Nancy and Randall Gier of Plano, Texas. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and some very special friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24 at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Chapel at 11200 Metcalf. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
