Frank Zappa, 56, Overland Park, Kansas passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 16, 2009 at Price of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 West 143rd Street, Olathe, Kansas 66062. A committal service will be immediately following at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. Frank was born October 4, 1953 in Baltimore, MD. As a young man Frank was enrolled in a professional dive school in Seattle where he became a certified deep sea diver. He participated first in weightlifting, and then bodybuilding, winning numerous competitions in both categories. He attended the University of Maryland, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Black and Veatch, both locally and internationally in Indonesia and Thailand. He had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed riding with friends every year to Sturgis. That passion was exceeded only by his love for and devotion to his beloved children, Frankie and Brittney. He helped and encouraged them in many activities including sports, music, and dance. Additionally he taught religious education at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family sugests memorial contributions to Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Survivors include his children, Frankie and Brittney; two brothers, Joseph Zappa of Texas, and William Zappa of Maryland; and three sisters, Barbara Cala of Maryland, Rose Jehnert of Maryland, and Deborah Katz of Arizona.
