Frankie Walker

Frankie Lou (Houser) Walker passed away early in the morning on April 20, 2020. She was 84 years old.

Frankie was born on Sept. 20, 1935 to Frank and Marilou Houser in Kansas City, MO. She attended elementary, middle and high school in Kansas City, KS and maintained wonderfully close relationships with classmates from Rosedale High School throughout her life. She graduated from the IBM Business School and had a very interesting career in data processing, having been trained in some of the early forms of automated systems.

In 1952, she married the love of her life, John O. Walker. They were married for 68 years and had a son, John W. Walker, in 1953.

Frankie was a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of churches in Kansas City, Dallas, Los Angeles and Bolivar, MO during her lifetime. Her passion for serving was evident for the entirety of her life.

In 1992 she was honored by the citizens of Bolivar, MO with the Community Service Award.

On April 4, 2007, she received the Outstanding Missourian Award, presented in the state capitol, and later was given the Lieutenant Governor’s Senior Service Award, for her efforts in starting the High Hopes Support Group for cancer patients.

She was a cancer survivor for over 45 years, sharing her experience with cancer patients and survivors in the Bolivar High Hopes Support Group. Frankie was instrumental in the establishment of a hospice house, the Tremain Hospitality House, managed by Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. She received the Service Award from the Polk County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

There was nothing more important to Frankie than her beloved family. Survivors include her son, John W. Walker and his wife, Kathy, their children, Brian Walker, his wife Lindsay, John M. Walker, his former spouse, Elizabeth Cook, and their daughter Eleanor, Christine Grammatikos, her husband Daniel, their daughters, Layla and Nora, sister, Carol (Houser) Rohrer and aunt, Ruth (Miller) Robertson, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
