Frederick Martin Gerdes, 75, of Overland Park passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 4 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Fred was born in St. Louis on July 15, 1933 to Fred and Elizabeth Gerdes who preceded him in death. Fred was an avid diver. He won the Mo. State Diving Championship and the National Hawaiian Championship when he was stationed there and represented the Coast Guard in the Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. Fred worked in sales and sales management with a number of companies throughout his career. He retired in 2001 after 17 1/2 years with Angelica Uniform. He was a past president of Pawcatuck Lions Club. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Overland Park Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Abdallah Shrine. He was also a member of the Joker's unit and the Royal Order of Jesters.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rene; daughters, Judi (Gordon) Walters, Lisa (Brad) Spears and granddaughters, or as he referred, his two dollies, Sydney and Olivia. He also leaves a son, Fred, of CA; an uncle, aunts and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriner's Hospital, c/o Abdallah Shrine or John Knox Village Hospice. Arr: D.W.
