Gary Eugene Kahmann, age 68, Olathe, Kansas passed away September 3, 2011. Memorial services will be Wednesday, Sept. 7th at 10:00 a.m. at D.W. Newcomers, Johnson County Chapel, burial in Johnson County Memorial Garden. Visitation will be Tuesday evening Sept 6th 5 to 7 p.m. at D. W. Newcomers Johnson County Chapel.
Gary was born January 10, 1943 in Memphis, TN. Gary graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1961; attended Pepperdine University one year on a baseball scholarship; and Pittsburg State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and played baseball and basketball.
Gary started his accounting career at Arthur Andersen and Co., Kansas City in 1965. He was a practicing CPA in his own firm in Olathe for over 30 years. Gary was awarded a lifetime membership in the Kansas Society of CPAs and the AICPA. He was a member and Deacon of Nall Avenue Baptist Church. He served on the Louisburg, Kansas School Board from 1987 to 1997.
He was a CPA by trade, but a farmer at heart, having owned several farms, raising cattle and growing crops. His entrepreneurial spirit was apparent in all his many successful endeavors and projects. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and serving as a representative with his homes' association.
Gary loved sports and played all sports in his youth. His favorite has always been baseball and in his retirement he spent many hours watching his favorite teams and especially his grandchildren's games.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Ernestine and Stanley Pindjak and his father Ernest Kahmann. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda, of 47 years. Daughters, Leslie (John) Feray, Nashville, and Jennifer Kahmann, Overland Park; sons, Greg (Katie) Kahmann, West Monroe, LA and David Kahmann, Haysville, KS; grandchildren: Libby, Lexie, Jack, Tyler and Garrett. Sisters: Bettye (Stanley) Caldwell, Overland Park and Debbie (Griff) Wyatt, Nashville, and brother, Randy Kahmann, Memphis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
