Gary Lockwood

Dr. Gary Francis Lockwood passed away on August 17, 2021. He was born February 11, 1943 to Leo and Esther Lockwood (nee Goodenough). He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1961. After earning his B.A. at the University of Kansas and his M.A. from the University of Missouri, he then earned his M.D. from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1971.

Dr. Lockwood did his residency at St. Luke’s Hospital from 1972 – 1975, followed by being awarded his Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1977. During the decades of his long career in the Kansas City area, he delivered close to 5,000 babies.

Gary loved practicing medicine and in his free time enjoyed reading military history, cheering on the KU Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs, and spending time with his family. We will all miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Julia Pauline Lockwood, his twin brother at birth, and his much loved brother Dr. Ted Lockwood. He is survived by his children, Kary Lockwood of Seagrove Beach, Florida; Scott (Angelika) Lockwood of Frankfurt, Germany; and Matthew (Ericka) Lockwood of Denver, Colorado. He will be missed by his three grandchildren Jacqueline Lockwood, Caroline Lockwood, Noah Lockwood and his wonderful sister-in-law Anne Lockwood and her children Elise (Scott) Fletcher, Mark (Robin) Lockwood and Mark and Robin’s son Crosby.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, August 23rd, at 11 a.m. at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.  Dr. Lockwood will be laid to rest next to his wife Pauline at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
