Gary Micheal Wattenberg, age 63, of Stilwell, Kansas, passed away peacefully with grace and dignity into the hands of God on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 reuniting with his beloved child Heather Ann, and his namesake and grandchild Mikayla Ann Wattenberg. Gary looked forward to seeing his beloved Heather Ann and Mikayla Ann after 6 years of grief and fighting pancreatic cancer. A celebration of Gary?s life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26th at Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held at church 10:00 ? 11:00 a.m. Saturday preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, Gary would like contributions made to Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall Avenue, Mission, Kansas 66202.
Gary grew up and lived in Mission most of his young life. He attended Hickory Grove grade school and graduated from Shawnee Mission North in 1963. Gary loved his church, Countryside Christian, the church he attended for 55 years. Gary served his country as a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division out of Ft. Bragg, N.C. He returned to Mission, Kansas after his discharge from the Army and married Peggy Burnett, his wife of 39 years. Together they made their home in Stilwell, Kansas where they?ve lived the last 30 years. Gary started for V.V. Burnett Excavating in 1972 and worked his way up to Operator, Vice President, and Partner in the company.
Gary is survived by his wife Peggy; a brother; 2 sisters; 4 sister-in-laws; 5 brother-in-laws; Peggy?s mom; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many many friends from church and work. He loved each and every one for the special people they are.
