Mr. Gary Milburn Wyancko, of Olathe, KS died in his home January 1, 2016. He was 72 years old.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Drema Wyancko, his two sons Chad and Eric both of Overland Park, and his brother Ronald Wyancko of Harrisonburg, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Jessie.
Gary was born on December 13, 1943 in Kansas City, MO to Harold and Jessie Wyancko. He grew up in post-war Prairie Village active in youth baseball, riding his motor scooter, and honing his natural gift of gab while helping his father on the family’s produce route. Gary was a graduate of Shawnee Mission East and Pittsburg State University. He served in the Kansas National Guard and was activated during the Viet Nam War where he served as a drill instructor training GI’s at Fort Leonard Wood (Missouri) and Fort Carson (Colorado).
After his formal education and fulfilling his duty to the country, Gary’s professional career was focused in the gasoline business. Early on he took a marketing position with Standard Oil Company of America (Amoco). From there he moved to the retail side of the business where for years you could find Gary managing the Amoco station near 50th and Roe. Eventually he moved back to marketing where he joined Carter Petroleum. For nearly 20 years at Carter he held a role as a marketing representative where he sold gasoline and advised clients primarily made up of owners of independent gas stations all across Kansas and Missouri. He loved working with his customers and would do anything to make them successful. He understood business drawing from early experiences with his father on that produce route and through his own personal endeavors where he negotiated many successful real estate deals. Gary’s career required travel, but he always found time to be at home with his family. He was a baseball coach, a scout leader, a basketball coach, and personal confidant. On occasion it was not uncommon for Gary to pile up a handful of kids and take them to the sports complex for a game.
After raising his boys and a successful career, Gary retired to his “Beach Hut” in Florida. He honed his margarita recipe and grew a pony tail. He forged new friendships. He travelled to all corners of the globe with his wife and friends on one scuba diving adventure after another. He swam with whale sharks in the Galapagos Islands, rays in the Caribbean, and through ship wrecks all along the Florida Keys. He stayed active manicuring his yards and with walks to Stump Pass.
Gary passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle with brain cancer. He will be remembered as an excellent example of how to lead a complete life, an engaging father, friend, and companion.
He was perfect and will truly be missed.
