Gayanne Gill Ferguson, 86, of Overland Park, KS died peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
Gayanne was born on April 27, 1937, in Warren, Arkansas to Max Herring and Maureen Womble Gill. She attended elementary school in Warren and then Kansas City, MO after the family moved. She enjoyed returning to Warren for summer visits for many years. She graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City, MO and Kansas City Junior College. In 1962, she graduated from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg with a Bachelor of Science degree. Gayanne worked at the Midwest Research Institute and then became a homemaker to raise her family. She was a Girl Scout leader and involved in many of her children’s activities over the years. She was a long-time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village, KS.
Gayanne and her beloved husband Donald, were married on July 18, 1959. They enjoyed traveling, taking numerous cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal and both the East and West Coasts. They also traveled on many bus tours throughout the U.S. Gayanne enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. She sewed clothes for donations to various local children’s community centers. Over her lifetime, she donated hundreds of garments. She also sewed a large collection of dress up clothes for her grandchildren.
Gayanne lived her life exhibiting a genteel lifestyle from her Southern roots, never having an unkind word for anyone or anything. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by many.
Gayanne moved into Brookdale of Overland Park, KS in February 2023 and resided there until her passing. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald; three children, Cynthia Salter (Steve), Jan Buster (Bryce), and Matthew Ferguson; five grandchildren, Jeff Salter (Hannah), Emily Jones (Tyler), Whitney Salter (fiancé David Gunter), Kaitlyn Rose (Rich), Lauren Buster (Johnny Dunlap) and 10 great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Samual Gill (Lana) and two nephews, Brendan Gill and Andrew Gill. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Sandra Ferguson, nephew Mark Ferguson (Margaret), and niece Haley Eisler (Sean) and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Maureen Gill.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 2 p.m. at Johnson County Memorial Gardens located at 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. A burial service will follow at this location. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208-
