Gene Borserine, 74, beloved husband, family man, and brother, passed away Tuesday, May 22, at Kansas University Medical Center. Death was the result of respiratory complications following heart surgery.
A life-long resident of Kansas City, Gene was born on February 17, 1938. He attended Missouri Military Academy, and completed his secondary schooling at Central High School in 1957. In his early twenties, he began what would become a highly successful career in sales. He first worked for Liggett and Myers. In 1982, he joined the sales team of a new company specializing in hardware fixtures founded by Mr. Tom Rowe, Moline, Illinois. Under Borserine Sales, Inc., Gene quickly helped establish Servalite, Inc. as one of the leading hardware suppliers in the Midwest. He coupled a superior product line with unfailing service to his clients, who ranged from owners of small, rural independent stores to managers of major urban home improvement centers. In 1991, Gene married Marjorie Hutchison, of Lockwood, Missouri. Gene simply adored Margie and the two shared a romance of unconditional love for one another. It was a storybook love affair, but lived out in real life. Margie soon became Gene's business partner as well as home-maker, wife, and mother. The couple raised two wonderful children, Michelle and David, themselves now adults with their own families. Margie shared with Gene a wide circle of friends, as well as Gene's passions for Corvettes, fast motorcycles, sports, and rhythm and blues music.
Gene was always a man of action and retirement for him was unthinkable. After leaving Servalite, Inc. in 2011, Gene joined Midwest Fastener to begin a new venture with the same energy that had marked his entire business life. Margie will continue Gene's work with the company.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Eugene F. Borserine, Sr. and his mother, Adele Azar Borserine. In addition to his wife Marjorie of the home, he is survived by Michelle and her husband, Dominic Salvato, and by David and his wife, Paula Hutchison, all of Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves behind his only sibling, his sister and best friend, Anna Marie Larkin, who lives in Leawood with her husband Burton L. Dunbar. Finally, special mention should be made of the loves of his life, his three grandchildren: Michael, Logan, and Samuel.
