Geneva Marcelene Henderson, 94, passed into eternity on November 27, 2014, at Garden Terrace Overland Park – an Alzheimer’s care facility. Geneva was born on August 22, 1920, in Republic County Kansas to John E. Jackson and Essley F. Monroe. Geneva attended District 12 country grade school and graduated from Concordia High School, followed by two years of business college. Geneva met David I. Henderson in December 1947, and they were married June 13, 1948, in Concordia, Kansas. David and Geneva were married 59 years at the time of David’s passing in October 2007. David and Geneva resided in the Kansas City area most of their married life. Geneva retired from the business world when daughter, Neva, was born. Son, Ron, was born four years later. Geneva was a full-time homemaker, Bluebird/Camp Fire Girl group leader, avid golfer and long-time member of the Overland Park Gems, a home extension unit. Geneva joined her husband in enjoying Royals baseball, the Kansas City Chiefs, travel, and much time spent with family, both immediate and extended.
Geneva is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Neva & Charles Schleper, son & daughter-in-law, Ron & Betsy Henderson; four grandchildren: Angela (Schleper) Wong & Andy Wong, Amy Schleper, Alex Henderson, and Leslie Henderson; two great-grandchildren: Gideon Charles Wong and Jonathan Andrew Kirk Wong; and her younger brother, Billy Lee Jackson of Concordia, Kansas.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, David, parents John and Essley, bother John Jackson, and sister Eilene Dalrymple.
The family will receive visitors at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas, on Monday, December 1, 20014 from 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 10 AM. Interment will immediately follow in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas. The family encourages donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Garden Terrace Overland Park, an Alzheimer’s care facility and Geneva’s home for 1-1/2 years.
