George Anness

George W. Anness passed away Jan. 8, 2009, peacefully at home in Shawnee, Kan., surrounded by family.

George was born Feb. 4, 1910, to Arthur and Mary Anness in Nelson, England. He died in his 99th year of natural causes. George moved to New Bedford, Mass., when he was 11 years old. He worked most of his career as a tool and die maker for John I. Paulding Wiring Device Co. He was a long-standing member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and the Order of Masons. George enjoyed golf, bowling and horse racing and spent several years of his youth as a semi-pro soccer player. He and his wife moved to Venice, Fla., in 1977 after he retired and lived there almost 30 years. George was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Anna Hathaway and Edith Waddington.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; a son, Stephen and his wife Maureen; and three grandchildren. A graveside service is planned at 11 a.m. March 14, at Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens, 23215 W. 75th St., Shawnee. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you consider a donation to Kendallwood Hospice, 2908 NW Vivion Rd, Kansas City MO 64150, who provided the family with wonderful support and counsel during George's final illness.
