George Betts, Jr., 68, Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away peacefully February 25, 2015. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas More Parish, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, Missouri 64131 on Tuesday, March 3rd at 10am. Visitation will be the evening prior at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS , from 5-7pm. George was born January 23, 1947 in Augsburg, Germany to George Sr., and Helen (Sochcow) Betts. He graduated from Belton High School in 1965. George proudly served in the United States Army, 1st Cavalry Division, from 1968 – 1971. He served as an Army Medivac on the front lines in Vietnam January 1969 to February 1970. After his discharge from the Army, George began a career in the commercial construction industry in Kansas City. George was very patriotic and loved our Country. Many of his hobbies included his joy for motorcycles, cars and trips to Sturgis. George also loved dogs and was dedicated to the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
George was preceded in passing by his father, George Sr., and his former wife, Nancy R. Betts. Survivors include his mother, Helen Betts of Lee’s Summit, MO; sister, Cindy (Larry) Turner of Liberty, MO; brother, John Betts of Kansas City; son, Jason (Tracy) of Lee’s Summit; daughter, Rachel (Eric) Koch of Glenwood Springs, CO; son, Nicholas Betts of Stilwell, KS; grandchildren, Alana Koch, Aubrie Betts, and Addilyn Betts; and former wife and best friend, Lettiann Southerland.
