George A. Chamblin Jr., was born at home in Chillicothe, MO. to George A. Chamblin and Alpha Stephens Chamblin on July 31, 1928. He was an only child. He attended school in Chillicothe through the eighth grade and graduated from Central High School, St. Joseph, MO in 1946. Following graduation, served in the US Army of Occupation in Pusan, Korea until discharged in 1948. Baker University in Baldwin, KS provided a good education and the place he met the “love of his life,” Phyllis Freeman. They were married in 1949. George graduated from Creighton University with a BS in Business in the Spring of 1952. While in school he worked for Union Freightways, this was the springboard for a successful life in the trucking business. He spent many years at Mid-American Trucking, Inc. where he worked his way up to President and Director. In 1988, he and his business partner, Len LaMourie, took a faithful leap and started CL Nationwide. He retired at the age of 75, in 2003. In 1957, George and Phyllis welcomed Linda, she is a blessing that he treasured. As a family man, he was supportive through the tough times and the rock of the family. His generosity admirable. In 1986, Andrea was born. They shared a unique bond developed over their Saturday mornings together. George and Phyllis always opened their doors to all and those inside their home were treated as family. They loved to travel and have many fond memories visiting every state in the US but Alaska and 43 countries around the world. He was actively involved in the community where he served as the Chairman for Heart of America, Equipment Interchange Association and the Spring Ball for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. When he moved to Tallgrass he also served on many committee’s continuing to share his leadership with those around him. He has friends that lasted most of his lifetime – he was a man that people respected. He had deep connections that were built over time through bible studies, dance parties, the golf course, cocktail hours, dinner parties and holiday’s. He cherished his time with others. George came to know Christ from a bible study that was being hosted in his home. He has been a deacon, elder and Chairman in the Church. He most recently attended Lenexa Baptist Church. A special moment for him was being baptized with his daughter and granddaughter. George was a man of God. He will be missed dearly by Phyllis, Linda, Andrea and friends.
