George Davis, Jr.

George Davis Jr., 85, Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice House November 30, 2018.

George was born July 30, 1933 to George and Zola (McMannama) Davis. He grew up in Girard, Kansas where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his friends. George married his high school sweetheart, Helen Ansart, right after graduation and hit the road working on construction crews. George and Helen had three sons; Roger, Richard, and Kurtis. George was a loving father and grandfather. He was playfully ornery and always up for a laugh. George and Helen settled in Overland Park, Kansas, in a home they built. George spent most of his adult life as an operating engineer in the Operating Engineers Union, Local 101. He loved his tractor and owning his own business. He enjoyed telling stories about his career. George had a life long passion for old country music, playing his guitar, and collecting guitars. He cherished the time he spent playing music with his friends as well as the time he spent practicing. In his later life he developed an interest in cooking and was always excited to share and swap recipes. Dinner was never without a glass of wine and rarely without dessert.

George is preceded by his parents, George and Zola (McMannama) Davis, his brother Raymond Davis, his wife Helen (Ansart) Davis, and their son Kurtis Davis. He is survived by his sons Roger Davis (Louisburg, KS) and Richard Davis, (of the home, Overland Park, KS). His grandchildren Julie Davis (Kansas City, MO), Rejane Davis (Overland Park, KS), Nicholas and wife Allison Davis (Leverkusen, Germany), Alexandria Davis (St. Louis, MO), Thomas Davis (Prescott, AZ), and Brian Davis (Louisburg, KS). Great grandchildren Basil Davis, (son of Rejane Davis, Overland Park, KS), Andrew Davis (son of Brian Davis, Paola KS) and London Davis (daughter of Nicholas and Allison Davis, Leverkusen, Germany).

Special thanks to the dedicated staff at Overland Park Regional Medical Center (HCA Midwest) as well as Kansas City Hospice House for being so kind and compassionate on George’s last day.

The immediate family will hold a private burial service where George will forever rest with his beloved wife Helen. Condolences maybe be sent to The Davis Family 9010 W 95th Terrace Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
