George Miller Gerlach, 95, Overland Park, Kansas passed away January 26, 2018.
A visitation will be from 4:30-5:30 pm Wednesday, January 31st at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave, Overland Park, KS 66207 with a memorial service starting at 5:30. Private inurnment will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to be made to the Overland Park Arboretum.
George was born November 18, 1922 in Badger, IA. His family moved to Hubbard, IA in 1925, where they joined St. John’s Lutheran Church and George was baptized and confirmed. He attended Hubbard High School and Ellsworth Community College until 1942 when he was enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He attended Iowa State University until 1949 and graduated with a degree in forestry. This is where he met his future bride of 67 years, Jeanette Elizabeth Luhnow of Kansas City. They were married in 1950 and he started work at the Long Bell Lumber Company. In 1952 he joined his father-in-law in the home building business at Luhnow Construction, where he worked until retirement. After retirement he was an active alumnus at Iowa State and traveled with Jean.
George was preceded in death by his brother, Richard; sisters, Mary Lucille and Anne Marie. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Paul (Jill), Carl (Jill); daughter, Sara (Fred) Suhr; grandchildren, Christopher (Lindsay); great-granddaughters, Camden, Jennifer (Ryan), Katie and Roxanne.
