George Smith, Jr.

George W. Smith Jr. (The 'Ole' Story Teller) was born on November 4, 1923 in Jackson, MS to George and Helen and grew up in Crawford County, KS. He was a veteran serving our country from June 1944 to June 1946 in the 130th Army Airways as a cryptographic technician, stationed in Kunming, China. George resided in Shawnee, KS or nearby since 1951. He attended local churches including: First Baptist Church of Shawnee, Antioch Hills Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Overland Park, and Merriam Christian Church and served his LORD in various capacities throughout his lifetime. He also spent his spare time – gardening, bowling, golfing, taking pictures and making frames, listening to music, telling about and writing his memories, playing checkers and solitaire- not necessarily in that order.

He is survived by Floy, his wife of sixty-five years; along with his son, Gary Smith (Patricia); daughter Catherine Boydston (Russ). Grandchildren: Stephanie Smith (Travis Svehla); Jennifer Deschene (Pete); Courtney Boydston; Ryan Boydston (Somer); Caleb Boydston. Great-Grandchildren: Sydney and Samantha Svehla; Adain Deschene. Siblings: Louise Walker; Shannon Clugston (Marge); a sister-in-law Judy Clugston and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his brothers: Donald Smith, Jesse Clugston.
