Dr. George Robert Young, 82, of Lenexa, KS passed away July 31, 2007.
Dr. Young was born March 9, 1925 in Monmouth, IL to Charles and Opal Young. He graduated from Crawfordsville, IN High School in 1943. After serving in the Army in WWII, he received a B.S. from Indiana University and a M.S. from Northwestern University. He completed his Ph.D. in 1956 at Indiana University, and began teaching at the University of Texas Dental School in Houston, TX until 1962 when he moved to Prairie Village and assumed the position of Chairman of the Biochemistry department at the UMKC Dental School. He also served in the National Guard and Army Reserves attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. George was active in the Overland Stage Chorus and Barber Shop Quartet during the past 20 years and 17 years respectively.
George is survived by his present wife, Shirley and former wife, Margaret, three sons ? Charles, Gregory and Roger, daughter Laura Adams and two step sons, Paul and Barry Lewis; 13 grandchildren ? Amy Kelly, Robert Young, Sean Young, Ryan Adams, Nathan Young, Natalie Young, Madison Young, Colton Young, Paul Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Michael Lewis, Keith Lewis and Phillip Lewis and 4 ? great-grandchildren, , Madeline Young, Andrew Gregory Kelly, Addison Rose Adams and Kerrick Lewis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2007, at 1:00 pm at the Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church followed by a private interment service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
