Jerry was born on March 29, 1914 in rural Eudora, KS to Edward and Emma Knabe. He graduated from Eudora High School and in 1943 from the University of Kansas. On June 9, 1940 he married Alvena Brecheisen; after graduation, they moved to California where he worked for Lockheed during WWII. Returning to Kansas City, he began a long career as a mechanical engineer, working for Gustin-Bacon/CertainTeed Corp, later retiring from Midwest Conveyor where he worked on overseas assignments. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Knabe Buller (Craig) and Elizabeth Knabe Roe and a son, William Knabe (Sue). He leaves seven grandchildren: Nathan, Amanda, Laura, Elise, Anne, Lark, and Amy and nine great-grandchildren.
Jerry always stayed busy with woodworking, caning chairs, fixing cars, hunting and fishing, and gardening. He earned a Master Gardener Certificate and really was a “farmer” at heart! He was good-natured, patient and kind and the “fix-it’ man for the family.
The family suggests contributions to Southminster Presbyterian Church or the Good Samaritan Fund, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, PO Box 20440, Wichita, KS 67208.
