It was a beautiful Easter Sunday, March 31, 1918 when Geraldine Louise Look was born in Jonesboro Maine. When she was three, the family moved to Kansas City to follow the RLDS church. Among Gerry's interests were giving riding lessons, at her Aunt Harriett's riding Academy, cooking, and modeling. At the age of 19 she married and had a son, Richard L. Piper. She's served as a grey lady during wartime while raising her son. Circumstances found her working for Jones truck line where she met and married her boss, Guy M. Queen, Sr. She became a mother of three, two boys and a girl. She instilled in their lives, the importance of church, social activities, and a sense of family. She made sure her children got to their Boy Scout meetings, Camp Fire Girls meetings, piano lessons, and many church activities on time. She became known as the Cake Lady making birthday cakes and wedding cakes for hundreds. Her Love of music and singing lead her to a 25 year membership with the Kansas City Chapter of Sweet Adeline's. She loved the intensity of the performance and the camaraderie and playfulness behind the scenes. Her latter years found her widowed at 70. She maintained her own home until health issues forced her into a nursing center at 92.
After a long and hard-fought struggle, her health failed her Thursday morning, January 6th. She was predeceased in death by her eldest son, Richard L. Piper, and leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Piper. Surviving, are three children and their spouses: Guy M. Queen, Jr. and Monte Dean, Lisa D. Hall and Thomas J. Hall, and James D. Queen and Susie Miller-Queen. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
