A life well-lived.
Gloria Hearshman, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13th at St. Luke's South Hospital in Overland Park. She was born on June 6, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa and raised by her divorced mother, Elva Van Norman. She went to East High School and Drake University in Des Moines. While at Drake, she was Homecoming Queen in 1945, was very active in the theatre program, and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Gloria was married on Valentine's Day in 1948 to William R. Hearshman. The couple moved to Kansas City in 1961 with their twin boys, Terry and Tim, and 3rd younger son, Jay. Gloria was active in the K.C. Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Assoc. and decorated many of their homes for the annual homes tour In December. She was also chairwoman of the tour one year. For many years, she was a member of the Janet Boone Society and Tomahawk Children's Theatre. Until recently, she was active as a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Prairie Village and Sarah Circle.
She will be sadly missed by her surviving family, husband William Hearshman, sons Timothy and Jay Hearshman, grandson Daniel Hearshman, his wife, Tracy, and 3 great granddaughters, Avery, 5, Hayden, 3, and Reese, 5 mths.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17th, and funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., April 18, both at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army, City Union Mission, or Wayside Waifs.
