Mrs. Gloria Weiss

April 10, 1926 — June 1, 2013

Gloria C. Weiss, 87, Spring Hill, KS, passed away peacefully in her home on June 1, 2013, with friends and family by her side. She is survived by her son Michael, her daughters Terry and Tammy, her grandchildren Keegan, Joey, Brian, and Julia, and her brother Charles. Her husband Jack, two oldest sons Jack Jr. and Bill, and her first granddaughter Chelsea preceded her in death. Gloria (nee Garner) was born in Galveston, TX, on April 10, 1926. Growing up, her bright smile and loving personality easily charmed everyone she met - including future husband Jack, based in Galveston upon his return from World War II combat duty as a B24 pilot over Europe. They married in Dickinson, TX, on June 2, 1945, and moved to Kansas City for Jack's career as a TWA airline pilot, and her life as an airline pilot's wife. Gloria quickly made lifelong friends in her new surroundings just by being herself. Her passion for Bridge, shared by so many of her friends, formed a bond spanning decades. She stayed active in "Bridge Club" until the last months of her life, and it remained one of her greatest pleasures. She loved life and she loved people, and it showed in every hug she happily bestowed on nearly everyone she met. Her selfless dedication to her husband, five children, and community was rewarded with the opportunity to travel the world and stay connected with family and friends, often with her Captain at the helm. Gloria's natural warmth, that touched so many across the globe and throughout her life, will be sorely missed by those who survive her. Her flight to the Heavens to join husband Jack took off on the eve of their 68th wedding anniversary. Now they continue their journey together. . . Visitation for Gloria will be 3-5pm Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons - Johnson County Chapel,11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. Funeral service will be 11am on Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Wea community Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, 22779 Metcalf Ave, Bucyrus, KS. There will be a private family interment. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, One Intrepid Square, West 46th Street and 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036.
