GORDON B. PETERSEN passed away at Kansas City Hospice House on Sunday, October 21 after a long battle with cancer.
Gordon was born in Wauneta, Nebraska on October 29, 1921 to Anna Wilhelmsen Petersen and Henry Petersen. After graduating from Shawnee Mission Rural High School, he joined the United States Navy where he became a fighter pilot during World War II on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Wasp in the South Pacific and was awarded several Distinguished Flying Crosses. He retired from Haynes Equipment Company in 1987. He was a member of the Westwood Lutheran Church, a church started by his Grandfather 101 years ago. He served on the church council in various capacities and was Property Chairman for the past six years.
Gordon is survived by his wife Shirley, four children, Lynn Maxwell and husband Rich, Ronald Petersen and wife Kay, Gregory Petersen and wife Melinda, and Rebecca Petersen. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His sister Audrey Beasley predeceased him in 1982.

Services will be held at Westwood Lutheran Church, 5035 Rainbow, Mission Woods, Kansas, on Wednesday, October 24 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 112th & Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas.
