Grace Gwinner Zimmerman, Prairie Village, Kan., passed away February 23, 2015. Grace was born in Dodge City, Kan., on Nov. 26, 1928. She graduated from Kansas University in 1950 from the School of Education. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta and Phi Lambda Theta. Grace was active in school, and served on many committees in leadership positions. During this time she was also active in YWCA, NOW, and WAA. Grace lived in Kansas City after graduation and sold life insurance for Connecticut Mutual for several years. She managed a southwestern Kansas farm, which her family homesteaded in 1887. Grace married Joe Zimmerman in 1951, and had 63 "wonderful years together." Grace often commented that she had a wonderful life, especially the time she spent with her family. Grace was very active and had many interests. She enjoyed golf, duplicate bridge, and owned and showed her Basenjis. She volunteered many years preparing taxes for VITA and AARP. She was active at Village Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, a member of Adult Education Committee, and teacher of adult classes. One of her favorite joys was being an active member of the Johnson County Young Matrons. Grace is survived by her husband, Joe, daughter, Jane (Ben) of Cambridge, Mass., son, Jack (Nancy) of Overland Park, grandsons, Greg, Chris, Jeff, and Casey Zimmerman, and great grandson, Brayden Zimmerman. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village. A reception at the church will follow the services.
