Mrs. Guiomar Barth

Guiomar Reuter Barth of Lee's Summit, Mo., beloved wife of the late Reverend Howard G. Barth, passed away October 31, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. Guiomar was born March 27, 1920, to Prof. Paul and Elsa (Meyer) Reuter in Seward, Neb. She graduated from Concordia College, Seward, Neb., in 1941, and married Reverend Howard G. Barth in 1943. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2003. They were blessed with four children: Miriam, Jon, Roxanne and Susan. She was a partner in her husband's ministry from 1944-1953 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Omaha, Neb., and from 1953 until his retirement in 1988 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7500 Oak St., Kansas City, MO 64114. For many years she was a member of the Altar Guild, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, chancel choir and hand bell choir, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Guiomar loved music and with her husband, was instrumental in the installation of the Miller pipe organ at Calvary. Guiomar and her husband loved to travel and led tours to Europe, the Holy Land and Hawaii. She had a great love for her family and is survived by a son and his wife, Jon and Lillian Barth, Kansas City, Mo.; daughters and their husbands, Miriam and Jerry Nelson, Omaha, Neb., Roxanne and Paul Reith, Rockford, Ill., and Susan and Roger Schmitt, Winnetka, Ill.; six grandchildren, Matthew Converse (Wendy), Andrew Barth, Emily Barth Childers (Josh), Thomas Reith, and Abbey and Ethan Schmitt; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Tiffany Converse; a brother, Robert Reuter, Charlotte, N.C., and extended family. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 7, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church. Visitation is Friday, November 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan.
