Mr. Hans Unwerth

Hans von Unwerth, age 86, passed away Friday, April 6, 2007.

He was born on April 7, 1920 to Hans and Nora von Unwerth. His father was a well-known structural engineer in Kansas City, Missouri. Hans attended Norman Elementary, Westport High School, Kemper Military Academy, and Kansas State University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. After graduating from K-State with a degree in civil engineering, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1942. He was discharged in 1945 having attained the rank of Captain. He worked in construction for Collins Construction Company, J.A. Tobin, and Steel Constructors, a partnership with Havens Steel. Hans retired as the owner and president of Engineered System in 1990. He was active in Second Presbyterian Church where he was ordained as a deacon and later attended Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church where he was a member for over 40 years. Hans lived in Prairie Village for 10 years and was a member of the Prairie Village Park Board. After moving to Overland Park, he joined Brookridge Country Club where he became an avid golfer. He enjoyed many rounds and numerous trips with the ?Golf Group?.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose von Unwerth; his daughters, Lynn von Unwerth (Bonnie Frontino), Asheville, North Carolina, and Jan Gulley (Rick), Olathe, Kansas; his grandsons, SrA Bryan Gulley (Leslie), Shaw AFB, South Carolina, and Eric Gulley, Olathe; three nieces and a host of good friends.

A celebration of his life will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 12th at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall. The family will visit with friends at a reception at the church following the service. Cremation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kansas City Hospice or St. Jude?s Children?s Hospital.
