Harold Thorton Bowman, Jr., known as Bud, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in Sun City, AZ.  Bud was born on August 11, 1937 in Pratt, Kansas to Harold T. and Laura M. Hardin Bowman.  Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Kansas City, MO where Bud and his three siblings grew up.  In his younger years, Bud enjoyed his dog Pogo and raising fish and rabbits.  He loved to play games out on the porch during summer evenings, to visit cousins on the farm in Hallsville, MO and to paint.

Bud attended East High School in KC, MO.  He graduated in 1955.  During high school he was a member of the Latin Club, Engineers Club and Future Business Leaders of America.  He had perfect attendance and zero tardies.  He also worked at the area hospital along with other jobs.

On May 30, 1957 he married Betty Mae Polacek.  They had two sons: Harold Douglas born 1960 and Rodney Alan born 1962.  Bud and Betty Divorced in 1979.

He attended Kansas University in Lawrence, KS.  In 1961, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture.  Bud worked in the KC, MO and Overland Park, KS areas as an architect for 50 years.  He helped work on the design for the Arrowhead Stadium and Baptist Memorial Hospital.  He retired in 2011.

In 1981 Bud met Cecilia Maria Villacreses at the Southwood Nazarene Church in Raytown, MO.  After dating for 7 months, they were married at the same church on July 10, 1981.  On August 2, 1983 they had a son whom they named Marcos Javier Bowman.

After marrying Cecilia, they joined the KC First Church of the Nazarene.  Bud served for many years in various capacities at the church.

He also enjoyed traveling with Cecilia.  They visited much of South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, China, Thailand, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Petra-Jordan to name a few.

In 2019, he moved with Cecilia to Sun City, AZ.  They resided in Sun City at the time of his death.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Laura and his younger brother Ronald Eugene Bowman and oldest sister Mary Lou Dedrick.  He is survived by (his wife Cecilia); son, Doug (m.Jackie) of Branson, MO and granddaughter Ashley; son, Rod (m.Michele) of De Soto, KS, granddaughters Kathleen and Jessica; son Marcos Javier (m.Keshia) of Commerce City, CO; Sister, Elizabeth Rummerfield of Overland Park, KS.

A service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 2:00pm at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210.  The family will receive friends from 1-2pm on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel.  Interment will follow the service at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
