HAROLD JAMES GRADY
Harold James Grady died January 2, 2016 at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS. Funeral services will be 10:30am Wednesday January 6th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Harold was born May 3, 1920 in Excelsior Springs, MO, the only child of Mathias Alexander Grady and Anna Maria Langenfeld Grady. At one year of age the family moved to Maryville, MO. Harold graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1942 and a Master of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1944. After serving in the United States Navy, he received the PhD Degree in Biochemistry in 1951 and joined the faculty of the University of Kansas School of Medicine as assistant Professor of Biochemistry and as a Clinical Chemist at KUMC in KC, KS. He became a full Professor in 1968. In 1970 he joined the Pathology Department at Baptist Medical Center in KCMO continuing to teach classes of medical technologists. After retiring in 1988 he joined the faculty of the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine as Professor of Pathology and Clinical Chemist at Truman Medical Center. He was a consultant in Clinical Chemistry for many hospitals and private laboratories.
Harold was a member of the American Chemical Society since 1955, of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) since 1964 and an AACC Fellow since 1971. He was a member of the AACC Board of Directors from 1969 to 1971. He was certified by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry in Clinical Chemistry and in Toxicological Chemistry.
Harold is survived by his wife, Freda Rose Reich Grady and by five children: James Robert, Dr. Ann Elizabeth Tosi and husband Dr. Richard Tosi, Christopher John, Eileen Marie Grady and husband Richard Savin, and Mark Edward. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Richard, Christine, and John Tosi and Nathan and Claire Schuur.
