Harold was born February 18, 1931 in Overland Park, KS, to parents Lloyd and Dorothy Louise (Lisk) Hester. A true native of Johnson County, Harold attended local schools and graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School. During his school years, Harold was active in sports, especially basketball and discovered he was a fine artist—even winning a First Prize for a painting. He was an Eagle Scout, loved horses, John Wayne, everything “Western”, and even painted a mural in the family home which featured western themes. He was handy at many things and helped to build a barn and the family home where he and his wife, Mabel raised five children. Harold was the Director of Public Works for Merriam, KS from 1968 until his retirement in 1993. His family were members of Cross Points Church (formerly Full Faith Church of Love) in Shawnee. The family fondly remembers numerous camping trips to Colorado.
Harold was preceded in death by: a son, Jim in 2009; his parents; a brother, Bert; and a sister, Naomi.
He is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Mabel; son Russell (Carol); son, Mark; daughter, Charlene (Stan); daughter, Heather (fiancé, Jimmie); seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and numerous friends.
