Harold Stuart

September 26, 1953 — December 16, 2018

Harold Sanders Stuart (Stu), 65, of Shawnee, KS; formerly of Butte, MT; Helena, MT; and St. Petersburg, FL passed away on December 16, 2018 after a brief battle with illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Margaret, his aunt Sister Mary Lenore Martin, and his brother Glenn. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie and her husband Brett, his son Bret, his sister Joyce and her husband Dewey, and his longtime life partner Sharon Hossfeld, along with her daughter Staci and her family. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends.

Stu was born in Butte, MT on September 26, 1953 to Margaret (Martin). He graduated from Butte High School and joined the United States Navy, as a hospital corpsman. After leaving the Navy, he went on to graduate from the University of South Florida, and became a well-known marketing coordinator within what is now known as One Blood (formerly Florida Blood Services). His talent and drive took him to Kansas City, MO-where he would ultimately begin a successful career with the IRS. He retired from the agency in 2016.

His daughter Stephanie was born in 1979 and his son Bret was born in 1986. Stu was the quintessential father. Stephanie was raised solely in her father’s home, and Bret benefited greatly from his father’s presence in his life, also spending quite a bit of his childhood in his father’s care. Stu worked hard to ensure that his children never wanted for anything, and could always be found at the softball/baseball fields, a school activity, or just spending quality time with his children.

He had the ability to make anyone feel welcome in his presence. He enjoyed listening to his favorite artists-Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Warren Zevon to name a few-and also loved to teach people how to appreciate music; something that he has passed on to many that know and love him. He was a die-hard Denver Bronco fan, and would tell anyone who would listen that the Broncos’ back-to-back Super Bowl wins were some of the great moments in his life. He also enjoyed watching and dabbling in golf.

Stu is already missed by so many. He was a great man and he will live on in all of our hearts forever. Memorial services are pending for March 2019 in Helena, MT. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Margaret Stuart Youth Home http://youthhomesmt.org/group_homes/the-margaret-stuart-boys-and-girls-home/ , a shelter for children in need named in honor of his beloved mother.
