Haskell Cochran, age 93, Shawnee, KS passed away Friday, November 28, 2008 at The Sweet Life in Rosehill.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at D. W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, Courtyard of Memories Mausoleum, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. Contributions in Haskell's name are suggested to City Union Mission, 1100 East 11th Street, Kansas City, MO 64106.
Haskell was born on December 2, 1914 in Kansas City, KS to Ed and Athalia Cochran. He lived most of his life in Merriam and Shawnee. Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Alice Roop Cochran; his parents; infant twin sister Hazel; brothers, Wayne & Gola; and sisters, Leva & Mildred. Survivors include four children, Neil Cochran & wife Susie, Barbara Choate & husband Milton, Judy Walter & husband Stephen, and Carolyn Jolly & husband Rick. A brother, Luther, also survives. Mr. Cochran also had 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Haskell worked in his brother Gola's grocery store at the time of his marriage and then worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He and Alice also owned a small grocery in Merriam where they worked together for 4 years. After joining the staff at his brother Luther's real estate office, Haskell worked as a sales agent as well as building homes and developing property. Haskell was a member of the original Merriam Bible Church, assisting with building & maintenance, as well as singing in the church choir.
