Helen Etta (Bowers) Wise, age 87, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 25th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas 66210. Burial will follow in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 30th at Ridglea Christian Church, 6720 W. Elizabeth Lane, Fort Worth, Texas 76121. The family suggests that contributions may be made to Ridglea Christian Church, 6720 W. Elizabeth Lane, Fort Worth, Texas 76121 or to a charity of donor’s choice.

Helen was born September 24, 1922 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was raised in Cane Creek Missouri near Poplar Bluff and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School. After high school she married Ralph Bowers and moved to St Louis where she was employed by the Emerson Electric Plant making gun turrets for the B-17 bombers. In 1952, she moved with her family to Overland Park, Kansas. While living in Overland Park, she was a member of the Overland Park Christian Church and was employed at Donald Bonjour School in Lenexa, Kansas as the secretary from which she retired in 1985. In 1967, following the death of her first husband Ralph, she married John Wise and lived in Lenexa until 1994. She then moved to Fort Worth, Texas and transferred her membership to the Ridglea Christian Church. Helen was a volunteer for Plaza Medical Center and Senior Friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas R. Scott and Clara Lois Scott; husbands, Ralph R. Bowers and John R. Wise; sisters, Lora Jane Swank, Clara Jo Prack, and her brother, Glenn R. Scott.

Survivors include: Kenneth (Kathryn) Bowers, Scott (Sharen) Bowers, Barbara (James) Goering, John (Cathleen) Wise, Tom (Vicki) Wise; grandchildren, Rachel Bowers Porter, Scott Bowers Jr., James Goering, Chris Shultheiss, Charles Goering, John Wise, Joe Wise, Michael Wise; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Vernon Scott; and loving nieces and nephews.
