Helen Burks passed away Wednesday February 5, 2020 surrounded by her family after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Helen is survived by her husband Clyde, son Jeff, step-son Tony, daughters in law Becki and Tara, brother Orval, and sister, Ruth. She is also survived by the greatest joy in her life, her grandchildren; Madeleine, Victoria, Sam, Jasper, and Jackson.
She was the ninth child of eleven that were born by Lillian Helen Marie Smiley. Of the eleven, nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death, Virginia Clark, J.W. Boyd, Mary Lou Martin, Lawrence Boyd, Robert Boyd, Carl Boyd, Annabelle Boyd, and Ila Marie Boyd. She loved her family and now is reunited with them. We can only hope that she has found joy with her friends and family in the Kingdom of Heaven.
While she grew up in Newtown, Missouri and Cedar Rapids, Iowa Kansas City was her home. She moved here when she was twenty and spent the rest of her days in the metro area. She was a lifelong Chiefs and Royals fan, so she saw her Royals win a World Series in 2015 and finally got to see her Chiefs win a Super Bowl this past weekend. She worked in the Medical Records field for the majority of her adult life and retired in 2008. She was working as a hostess at the Longbranch Saloon when she met her husband Clyde. They married on April fool’s day in 1987 and spent the next 33 years together loving each other and being best friends.
Helen was loved by all that knew her, she was a loving person and always had a kind word for all that she met. She is survived by many friends and family. We will all miss her terribly and will always strive to live up to the example she has set for us. At this time of sorrow we are all trying very hard to celebrate her life while grieving her death. Please say a prayer for her and for all of us that are still here to carry her legacy forward.
Thank you to all who have reached out with your thoughts and prayers. We would like to ask you to provide donations to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or the Hospice House of Olathe in lieu of flowers. WE LOVE YOU HELEN/MOM/GRAMMA, we will see you later.
