Helen C. Foote, daughter of John and Anna Smith, was born on September 22, 1925 in Hutchison, Kansas. She was the fourth of four children born to her parents. In 1930 the family moved to McCracken, Kansas where Helen attended McCracken High School and Brown Mackie School of Business. She moved back to Hutchison and joined Southwestern Bell Telephone. Helen loved to dance and at a dance party she met Chuck the love of her life. They were united in marriage and soon after the young couple. with their son Jerry, moved to Wichita, Kansas. While in Wichita they were blessed with two daughters, Debra and Diane. The family moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1955 where Chuck worked for Armour and Co. and Helen was a homemaker. While living in Topeka Helen and Chuck established many close friendships. Numerous evenings were spent chaperoning parties that Jerry attended, or just playing cards with friends and eating homemade ice cream.
In 1961 the family moved to Overland Park, Kansas where Helen was employed as a teller for Capitol Federal Savings and Loan. While working for Capitol Federal Helen’s keen business sense afforded her many career advancement opportunities. Helen’s career with Capital Federal spanned twenty-nine years and throughout her tenure she was consistently ranked as a top performer.
She was one of Capitol Federal’s first female Savings Officers and received numerous recognition awards for customer service, including the Chairman Achievement Award.
Not only was Helen dedicated to her work, but she was extremely devoted to her family. Helen and Chuck were married for over fifty years and most of their lives were centered on friends and raising their three children. Helen’s friends always knew her to be an avid shopper and having an insatiable sweet tooth. Helen will be remembered for her inexhaustible energy, her infectious sense of humor and her caring and love of people. She will be greatly missed by those individuals whose lives she touched, but in keeping with Helen’s wishes, all should rejoice in her life and not dwell on her passing. Those individuals that were lucky enough to know Helen will forever have memories of her amazing dedication to family, friends and work.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chuck, one brother Earle Smith, two sisters Hallie Plouffe and Anna Elizabeth (“Betty”), and one niece Marilyn Plouffe Bailey. Surviving members of her family include her son Jerry Foote and his wife Cathy, her two daughters Debra
Keith and Diane Foote, both from Dallas, Texas and one granddaughter Kimberly Davis of Leawood, Kansas.
