Helen Louise (Gill) George, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, at the Care Center of Lakeview Village in Lenexa.
Helen was born Sept. 9, 1913, in Anthony, Kan. Her parents were Calvin and Inez (Benson) Gill. The family moved to El Dorado when Helen was small. She graduated from El Dorado High School, Junior College, and attended the University of Colorado. Helen was well traveled and worked for the Tax Commission in Topeka, American Airlines in New York City, and Northeast Airlines in Miami, Fla. She was always active in politics and served as Democratic Junior National Committee women in 1940. Helen met her future husband, Bob George, a former Democratic Kansas Senator in Topeka. They were married in the New Mexico's Governor's house in 1957. They then moved to Fort Pierce, Fla., and became citrus grove owners. The George's traveled extensively, both in the United States and internationally, making friends wherever they went. In 1981, they moved to Lenexa to be closer to family. She was a lifelong member of Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth (Gill) Young of El Dorado, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.
