HELEN EILEEN HARTMAN, 85, Lee’s Summit, MO, formerly of Green Valley, AZ and Topeka, KS passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009 at John Knox Village Care Center. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009, at John Knox Village Chapel, 400 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, MO. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Eileen to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Eileen was born July 4, 1924, in Jackson County, MO. She graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School in 1942. She graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 1947 with a BS in nursing. Eileen was also a Certified Medical Assistant for both Administrative and Clinical areas. Graduate work included courses in Ward Management, Psychiatry for Nurses, Hematology and Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.
Her working career started as a Nurse Cadet in Honalulu, HI in 1948. Eileen worked for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in both Kansas City, MO and Topeka, KS. She also worked for Dr. James K.L. Choy, urological surgeon, in Topeka, KS; Kansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Topeka, KS; and Pima County Medical Institute in Tucson, AZ. While employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield as an industrial nurse and Health Education Manager, she wrote a dental terminology handbook.
She was an avid bridge player; active with Trinity Presbyterian Church in Topeka and a charter member of Green Valley Presbyterian Church in Arizona; made several beautiful quilts and knitted sweaters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell E. and Caroline Myers; brother “Eddie”; and husband, Harry C. Hartman.
Survivors include her daughter Nancy Trickett Ransom (Doug) of Kansas City, KS; grandson Paul C. Trickett (Teika), Grand Junction, CO and granddaughter, Haley J. Nuessen, Emporia. In addition to her immediate family she is blessed with several great grandchildren; many cousins and a whole host of friends.
