Helen Kramer

October 10, 1919 — April 24, 2009

Helen M. Kramer, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died April 24, 2009 at Kingswood Senior Living Center. She was born in Halstead, KS on October 10, 1919, the second daughter of Florence and Charles Lohmeyer. After schooling in Halstead, she attended Bethel College, Newton, KS and then Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1941. She was a member of Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority.

It was at Kansas State University that she met and later married the love of her life, George R. Kramer on September 7, 1941. Throughout her married life she was a homemaker, active in her church and the school activities of her children. After traveling the world together, Helen and George retired to the Kansas City area where they celebrated 67 years of married life. She was a member of the Yankie Class of Old Mission United Methodist Church, Chapter FQ of the PEO Sisterhood, Blue Valley Quilt Guild and Delta, Delta, Delta Alumni Sorority. Helen and her daughter Kathy Freshwater were blessed in the final years of her life as they traveled around the KC area together giving programs that shared their love of quilts and quilting.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy L. Rayburn.

She is survived by her husband, George, one son George Jr. and her daughter Kathy Freshwater (John). She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Robert, George R. III (Karla), Michelle and Katie and five great grandchildren whose lives are filled with multitudes of wonderful memories of their grandmother.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at a later date at Kingswood Senior Living Center. Burial will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mankato, KS. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Kingswood Foundation – Health Center.
